Dr Munmun De's interest in Veterinary proffession was initiated by her father Prof (Dr) Dipak Kr De and mother who had complete her post graduation from School Of Tropical Medicine, Kolkata and was working in ESI hospital.
In her teens, Dr.Munmun use to help her father in his clinic, where she learned about the care of pets. This instilled in her a desire to follow suit and practice veterinary medicine.
Dr Munmun De was born in Kolkata and grew up as a daughter in a Doctor family. She loves her city where her family has remained through out and which is where she did her schooling from Modern High School for Girls -2005. From a young age she was interested in animals especially those around her but wasn't sure growing up whether she wanted to focus on animal or human medicine.
She attended the University of West Bengal University of Animal n Fishery Sciences, Kolkata and received her BVSc & AH Degree in 2010. She did her post graduation from the same University in Veterinary Surgery and Radiology in 2012. followed by her Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Veterinary Surgery and Radiology in the year 2015. She is a gold medalist in 5 subjects.
For educational tour she had travelled to Shundarban, gurumara forest, Jaldapara forest and did a lot of social camp for large animals as well as wild animals.
She did her internship all over Kolkata and suburb of Bengal including from Alipore Zoo and had became fond of wild animals since then, Dairy Farm, Poultry Farm and in different govt Hospitals/NGOs.
Besides a life member of Indian Society for veterinary surgery for many she is also a life member of several other professional societies like Indian society for veterinary medicine, Indian society for advancement of canine practice, Indian society for public health association. She is also a life member of Kennel Club of India, Kolkata. She attends two conferences every year with her father and makes sure to present a paper on different case studies she has been dealing.
She was attached with few NGOs after her graduation as she wanted to do some social work for the stray dogs and cats,and has also held many rabies camp and Animal Birth Control Programme.
Dr Munmun De is an excellent equestrian rider too in Fort William Riding and Polo Club.Her interest in equine sports since childhood also motivated her to treat horses. Horses are also man's best friend she claims and being a National Bronze medalist Dr Munmun wishes to continue her riding and equine practice too.
She is also a club veterinary doctor for Tollygunge Club where she is been looking after all the club dogs and is responsible for their good health. Dr Munmun De is a volunteer for Mission Rabies and has taken ITC, WVS training for Animal Birth Control Surgery.
Her interests include internal medicine, ultrasound, radiology, dentistry and different types of surgery too.
Reflecting on what she most enjoys about being a veterinarian, Dr. Munmun De says, "It is definitely a wonderful feeling to see a critically ill patient recover completely and return home healthy and active. However, perhaps the best part is really getting to know our clients and pets as well as to see the many special relationships that exist between our clients and their pets."
